Not long ago, every American family seemed to be seeking a trophy house - and new homes rapidly became bigger and grander as builders responded to those demands in the Chicago real estate and Illinois real estate markets. A recent RE/MAX survey finds that the situation has changed markedly, especially for Chicago homes priced at $400,000 or less, but even homes in higher price brackets are making a nod toward modesty.
